Bigler, Curtin, Geary & Packer Halls

Bigler, Curtin, Geary, and Packer Halls are traditional residence halls located in a quad in the southwestern corner of East Housing Area. All four buildings are coed and feature "double, traditional residence hall" rooms, as well as supplemental housing. Buildings feature common floor bathrooms.

  • Bigler: coed on the floor - male and female students are assigned to sections of the floor, with a designated bathroom on the floor for male and female residents.
  • Curtin, Geary, and Packer: coed by floor - male or female students are assigned exclusively to each floor, with one bathroom available per floor.

Bigler Hall, built in 1961, is named after William Bigler, the 12th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1852-55. Bigler created the Clearfield Democrat, a political newspaper, when he was just 19 years old. After his term of governor, he served as a U.S. Senator.

Curtin Hall, built in 1961, is named after Andrew Gregg Curtin, the 15th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1861-67. Hailing from nearby Bellefonte, Curtin led Pennsylvania through the Civial War, signing various bills to finance the Union's military efforts. After his term in office, President Ulysses S. Grant appointed him as the U.S. Ambassador to Russia in 1869.

Geary Hall, built in 1961, is named after John W. Geary, the 16th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1867-73. Geary was actually the Governor of two states, serving for Kansas for six months in 1856-57, and Pennsylvania 1867-73. He as the tallest PA Governor, standing at 6' 5". Geary also sported an unconventional, but fantastic, beard.

Packer Hall, built in 1961, is named after William F. Packer, 14th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1858-61. Although his father died when Packer was only seven, he dove right into the newspaper business at the Bellefonte Patriot when he was a teenage. Packer fully supported the establishment of the public school system.
