Historic Housing Event Set For December 6

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

It’s rare to have history made and witnessed at the same event, but with the help of Penn State Housing, students will be able to do just that on Wednesday, December 6.

From 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Findlay Commons, students will be able to sign beams being used in the construction of Martin Hall while also witnessing the revealing of artifacts from a Pennypacker Hall time capsule.

Students and other members of the campus community can leave their mark on Penn State by signing one of two beams that will be at the event. The beams will then be placed in Martin Hall, a new residence hall being constructed in the East Hall Complex.

The time capsule opening is set for 6:30 p.m.

The event, which is being co-sponsored by the construction company Clayco Inc. and the Association of Residence Hall Students (ARHS), will also feature Penn State Bakery giveaways and a build-your-own treat station.

Penn State Housing hosted two beam signings in 2016, during construction of Earle (East Halls) and Robinson (North Halls) residence buildings, which opened in August 2017.

In May 2016, Findlay Commons hosted the most recent time capsule opening, which revealed elements of student life in 1965.
