New East Halls Residence Naming Approved
A new residence hall within the East Halls complex will carry the name of Pennsylvania’s 32nd governor - Edward Martin. Naming for the 415-bed residence hall was confirmed by the Board of Trustees on Sept. 15.
Martin Hall becomes the 16th hall available for students residing in the East Halls complex. Completion of the residence hall is scheduled for August 2018. Construction began in January 2017.
All residence halls and commons buildings in the East and Pollock complexes carry names of Pennsylvania governors.
Martin served the Commonwealth for one term, from 1943-47. A lawyer from Waynesburg, the Republican took office after serving a four-decade long military career. Continuing in politics, Martin went on to serve as a United State senator from 1947-59.
The creation of Martin Hall adds to the larger East Halls renovation project, which began in July 2015. All residence halls in the complex are being renovated as a result of the project, which also included the building of Earle Hall.
Earle Hall opened to residence in August 2017.
