Penn State partners with Zimride by Enterprise for ride-matching service

Penn State is partnering with Zimride by Enterprise, a service of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, to launch a new transportation option - an online ride-matching service that easily connects drivers and passengers heading to the same area.

The private network - available only to Penn State students, faculty, and staff - enables drivers and passengers to create a free profile using their PSU Access ID and password. Members of the University's network can search for open seats or post their ride and destination on a secure and private network. The platform's unique approach to ride-matching also allows members to link their profile to their Facebook page.

"Zimride will help Penn State students, faculty, and staff across all 24 campuses find and share rides for commuting, road trips, and special events," said Rob DeMayo, director of Transportation Services at Penn State. "Ride-sharing is a great way to help reduce traffic congestion and travel-related expenses, and Zimride provides a secure platform for Penn Staters to get where they're going together."

As a sustainable alternative to driving individually, Zimride helps reduce vehicle emissions, traffic congestion, and fuel consumption while splitting transportation costs. It is the largest web-based ridesharing and carpooling network in North America.

"At Enterprise, we offer our customers a total transportation solution by providing a range of sustainable options," said Enterprise Vice President Ryan Johnson, who oversees Zimride as well as other sustainable commuter options including Enterprise Rideshare and newly acquired vRide. "With Zimride, members of the Penn State community can coordinate one-time travel plans, such as holiday-break rides, as well as ongoing rides and daily commutes to campus."

Enterprise recently launched its CarShare program on the Penn State campus.
