Remote Learning Period fall 2020

Students who are unable to leave campus during the Remote Learning Period, identified as Sunday November 22 through Saturday December 19, may Request Housing to stay on campus during this time.

Housing During the Remote Learning period

Students who are approved to stay on campus for the Remote Learning period will be able to stay in their fall room assignment. Undergraduate students living in Nittany and White Course Apartments need to Request Housing as well; the Remote Learning Period is not included in the fall HFS Contract. Family and graduate students with White Course Apartment Leases are not required to submit a request, as the lease includes housing during this time period.

During the Remote Learning period, all current practices and policies in place for fall semester will continue to be in effect:

  • Residence Life will have staff on duty
  • Housing Operations will clean and disinfect residence hall buildings
  • Food Service Operations will be available
  • Current Penn State protocols for social distancing, masks, etc. will be enforced
  • No guest policy remains in effect

Request Housing Process

Requests may be submitted through eLiving, and students will need to indicate the reason that they are requesting to stay in on-campus housing during this time period.

Students who submit a request by November 2 will receive a response by November 6. Requests submitted after November 2 will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, but responses may be delayed and requests may not be considered.

Students who are approved to stay for Remote Learning will then receive a Housing and Food Service (HFS) Contract offer that will need to be accepted by the student.

Room and Board Rates

The room rate that will be charged will depend upon which room type a student is currently assigned to for fall semester, and will either be $30 or $40 per night. The Campus Meal Plan is required for all room types, except apartments. The cost is $12 per night for the base cost. Students will utilize dining dollars remaining from fall semester; additional funds can be added to the meal plan or LionCash+.  Room and board charges will be applied to the student's LionPATH account for payment.
