Summer Housing Options

WE ARE happy to offer on-campus housing during the summer session!

CURRENT STUDENTS

Current Penn State students registered for summer courses at University Park are eligible to live on campus. Typically, the University is not able to house students who are not taking summer courses scheduled through the Registrar and have an active account in LionPATH. However, students who are not able to leave campus for extenuating circumstances may request on-campus housing.

To request on-campus housing, please follow the steps below. HFS Contracts will be offered beginning Monday April 19.

  1. Schedule summer courses in LionPATH (not required for students unable to leave campus)
  2. Review room and board rates and housing options available
  3. Submit a Summer / Break Housing Request through eLiving (the Housing Assignment Office may contact you with any questions about your request)
  4. You'll receive an email notification of the HFS Contract offer - accept the HFS Contract offer in eLiving before deadline date. Indicate your preferred housing option on the HFS Contract
  5. The Campus Meal Plan for summer is only available at Level One. Remaining dining dollars at the end of summer will be transferred to the student's fall Campus Meal Plan (if one is purchased; funds forfeited if no fall Campus Meal Plan).

MAYMESTER

Students attending Maymester will be housed in Martin Hall, and will have the opportunity to relocate to Nittany Apartments starting Sunday May 16 if space is available.

 

INCOMING FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

New first-year students admitted for summer 2021 will automatically accept the Housing and Food Service (HFS) Contract for both summer and fall during the process of accepting the offer of admission to Penn State through the MyPennState page. If a student changes his/her enrolled semester AFTER accepting the offer, please contact the Housing Assignment Office to request a summer HFS Contract. HFS Contracts can be viewed in eLiving to verify. Students will be able to indicate a housing and roommate preference. Room assignments are processed in random order, and there is no guarantee that a student will be assigned to the preference indicated on the HFS Contract. 

All students will be assigned to a double room, renovated residence hall, in East Halls for summer session. The East Food District will be open for services. Information about moving items to the student's fall room assignment after summer session ends will be provided mid-July.

LEAP PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

Students scheduled for an in-person LEAP pride will be required to live on campus for summer session. Students scheduled for an all remote-learning LEAP pride may opt to live on campus (or must be living at permanent home) for summer session. The HFS Contract must be accepted during the offer of admission; for students scheduled for all remote-learning classes, information about how to cancel the summer HFS Contract will be provided towards the end of May.

INDEPENDENT STUDENTS

Students who are not participating in the LEAP Program and scheduled for in-person classes will be required to live on campus for summer session.  Students scheduled for all remote-learning classes may opt to live on campus (or must be living at permanent home) for summer session. The HFS Contract must be accepted during the offer of admission; for students scheduled for all remote-learning classes, information about how to cancel the summer HFS Contract will be provided towards the end of May.

CAMPUS MEAL PLAN

On-campus residents will have the benefit and convenience of the Campus Meal Plan for summer. Level 1 of the Campus Meal Plan is offered for summer (level 2 and 3 are not an option). Remaining dining dollars at the end of summer will be transferred to a student's active fall Campus Meal Plan. If a student does not return to campus for the fall semester, any remaining dining dollars are forfeited.

ROOM ASSIGNMENTS AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION

Summer room assignments will be posted in eLiving approximately 2 weeks before summer session II begins. Students attending Maymester or summer session I will be notified of assignment by email.
